Range question of the week: Can we shoot tin cans and junk at our ranges?

Answer: NO

To the person who thought it was a good idea to shoot at the fence above the pistol range: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? Do you have any idea where those rounds went after they went thru the fence? Did you even think where they might go? Do you even care?

If you see stupid stuff like this going on at our ranges, please try to get the person’s name, membership number, or license plate number and call the office at 330 832 2411.

One stupid act like this could cost us the whole place.

Please shoot safely. We are always only one trigger click away from a disaster.

Thank you for your support.

Range question of the week; can I shoot a weapon with a binary trigger, forced return trigger or a bump stock at the NLFGC ranges?

Answer; Yes you can shoot a weapon equipped with one of the above mentioned devices if;

1, The device is considered legal under the rules and regulations of the ATF.

2, You MUST follow range rule Section 2 Firearms safety rules subsection B) You must follow the 5 second rule between shots. Automatic or bump firing is prohibited.

It is my understanding that bump stocks are still prohibited by the ATF at this time.

Glock switches. As I understand the function of the Glock switch once the trigger is pulled one time the firearm will continue to fire until all the rounds in the magazine are fired. Since the rate of fire of this weapon cannot be controlled to one round every 5 seconds these are prohibited at our ranges.

Yes, buzzkill but our ranges are designed to be target ranges not a place to come and dump rounds down range indiscriminately. There is too much chance of ricochets when they do not impact the limestone backstop.

Please shoot safely. We are always only one trigger click away from a disaster.

Thank you for your support.

Rifle and pistol range. When shooting at the rifle range select a shooting bench that is in a straight line down range with the target board you want to post your targets on. No cross firing between target boards. For example, do not take a position at the 50 yard bench and shoot across the range at the 100 yard target board. All bullets MUST impact the gray limestone backstop.

Same at the pistol range. Select a shooting position then place your target stand at your desired distance in a straight line out from your shooting position. All bullets must impact the limestone backstop and not the earthen side walls.

The only time out of position firing is allowed is during competitions such as Steel Challenge and USPSA events.

Please shoot safely. We are always only one trigger click away from a disaster.

Match will open at 8:30am on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Shooting will start at 9:00

Rules: All range safety rules will apply. Use of an ECI (Empty Chamber Indicator, supplied at the match) is mandatory. No handling of firearms while people are downrange. Use of ear protection is required on the firing, ready, and assembly lines.

Equipment: The rifle must be a Navy SEAL issued rifle, either semi-auto or bolt action, or a commercial replica rifle of the same type and caliber (.338 Lapua and .50 BMG are not allowed). Competitors can use any scope they want to use. See list of recommended rifles below.

Ground Mats, Coats, Gloves, Spotting scopes etc. are recommended. Web or leather service rifle slings allowed. Bipod or sandbags are allowed and recommended.

History of Chris Kyle, The Legend

Chris Kyle was arguably one of the United States military’s deadliest snipers in Iraq with a large number of confirmed and unconfirmed kills. The Pentagon officially confirmed more than 150 kills. The Navy credits him with more confirmed kills than any other American serviceman in history. Kyle was often asked about his weapons. While in training, he used four different rifles in order to know which weapon was the most useful in the given situation. In the field, he used the following, and these will all be permitted in the match:

• Semi-automatic 7.62 NATO Mk 11 sniper rifle (AR-10 or similar)

• 5.56 NATO Mk 12 Designated Marksman Rifle modified with the lower receiver of an M4A1 to get a collapsible stock and allow full-auto fire (AR-15 or similar)

• Remington 700/300, Later type classified as a MK13 Mod 1, .300 Winchester Magnum sniper rifle with McMillan stock and customized barrel, which was later replaced with an Accuracy International .300 Winchester Magnum or similar rifle up to .300 Winchester Magnum.

• FN SCAR 16 or 17 or similar.

• Springfield M1A in any configuration.

Course of Fire: Competitors will be firing a custom 10-Shot Course of fire. Relays will be fired concurrently. No alibis or refires will be given. Firing will start at 50 yards standing, move to 75 yards kneeling, then 100 yards kneeling, then 200 yards prone. Bipods are strongly recommended.

• Five Sighters fired in a time of 3 minutes at 100 yards (any position)

• 50-yard shots will be made on 4” steel plates (2 plates) standing.

• 75-yard shots will be made on 4” steel plates (1 plate) kneeling.

• 100-yard shots will be made on 8” steel plates (2 plates) kneeling.

• 200-yard shots will be made on 8” steel plates (5 plates) prone.

This course of fire will be one shot per target for a perfect score. There are 10 targets, so 10 shots is perfect. The competitors will start at the 50-yard line standing to engage 2 steel plates. Competitors will move to the 75-yard line and engage 1 steel plate from the kneeling or sitting position, then to the 100-yard line where they will engage 2 steel plates from the kneeling or sitting position. Finally, competitors will engage 5 steel plates from the prone position at the 200-yard line. Sandbags can be set up prior to starting the relay. Bipods MUST be folded until competitor reaches the 200-yard line. Competitors will be timed from start to finish and may not advance to the next position/distance until all the targets are knocked down. There will be a timekeeper and a round-counter for each competitor. Competitors may load their magazines to maximum capacity. More than one magazine and stripper clips for bolt-action rifles with internal magazines are strongly recommended, but not required.

Scoring: There will be a total of 10 steel plates at various distances described above. A perfect score will be one shot per plate for a total of 10 shots. Plates must be knocked down to count. The timekeeper will keep accurate time as that will be the tie-breaker. No one will move from one position to the next until all the steel plates at that position are down. A perfect 10 will win the match provided it’s done in the shortest amount of time.

Accessibility Accommodations: For shooters that are unable to go to a kneeling or prone position, a chair will be provided.
